Sentenced , in the Brisbane District Court, to 2 yrs and 6 months jail – suspended after serving days. Time spent in pre sentence custody declared as time served. Update – Man faces flash charge Serial flasher tells court he exposed himself to overcome fears of being naked in public A SERIAL flasher who has exposed himself in public 19 times over a decade tried to convince a judge he only does it to overcome his fear of being seen naked. Clifford John Candy, 30, told the Brisbane District Court he liked to wave his genitals around “like a flag” – mainly in front of children – in front of people to fight his fear of going nude in public – and feed his adrenalin addiction The comments raised the ire of Judge Milton Griffin, SC, who described the claim as “absolutely absurd. The court was told Candy fled when confronted by the girl’s mother, but committed another indecent act when he moved into sand dunes, stripped naked and bared his manhood to “all and sundry” on a heavily populated stretch of beach. Judge Griffin put Candy in the witness box to give evidence under oath after dismissing the accused man’s claims of receiving no sexual gratification from the acts as ludicrous.

Aboriginal history[ edit ] Newcastle and the lower Hunter Region were traditionally occupied by the Awabakal and Worimi Aboriginal People, who called the area Malubimba. His discovery of the area was largely accidental; as he had been sent in search of a number of convicts who had seized a locally-built vessel called Cumberland as she was sailing from Sydney Cove. Shortland entered what he later described as “a very fine river”, which he named after New South Wales’ Governor John Hunter.
Over the next two years, coal mined from the area was the New South Wales colony’s first export. Philip Gidley King , the Governor of New South Wales from , decided on a more positive approach to exploit the now obvious natural resources of the Hunter Valley.

Share this article Share ‘The rioting is only the extreme end of the spectrum of bad behaviour by British youth and young adults. Anthony Daniels, a retired prison doctor and psychiatrist who has worked in some of the hardest-hit areas on the planet, said the British were now in great fear of their own arrogant, knife-wielding children He claimed many American visitors to the UK were astounded at how quickly Britons became angry over trifling matters.
And he revealed that it was now ‘quite literally’ difficult to ‘distinguish the sound of people enjoying themselves from that of someone being murdered. Mr Daniels’ piece, which will be consumed by a worldwide audience, heaps further embarrassment on the UK, which has today again made headline news across the world. Newspapers from Ireland, Iceland and even Iran have used the sickening images of the looting on their front pages. Even regional newspapers, such as the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, which covers Little Rock in Arkansas, led on the riots with the headline ‘British add 10, police as rioting starts a 4th day’.
Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is urging the U. Security Council to take action over the rioting in Britain. He was also quoted by state radio calling on Britain’s government to listen to the demands of their people. Ahmadinejad was heard on the radio asking: In Africa, the riots also received near-blanket coverage, presenting Britain as a nation in crisis.
The Johannesburg Star featured a picture of a bewildered-looking Boris Johnson on its front page, under the headline ‘Mayhem in London’.

Said to be named after a village in England, Albury developed as a transport link between New South Wales and Victoria and was proclaimed a city in The explorers Hume and Hovell arrived at what their maps called Crossing Point and they named the river the Hume River, after Humes father, and the next day inscribed a tree by the river bank before continuing their journey south to Westernport in Victoria.
In , explorer Captain Charles Sturt discovered the Hume River downstream at its junction with the Murrumbidgee River, not realising it was the same river, he named it the Murray River. Both names persisted for some time, Hume falling into disuse eventually in favour of Murray, the aboriginal name for the river was Millewa. A crossing place for the Murray became popular close to where Hovell inscribed the tree, in summer it was usually possible to cross the river by foot.
Among the first squatters to follow in the steps of the explorers and settle in the district were William Wyse, the first European buildings erected at the crossing place were a provisions store and some small huts. Albury is said to be named after a village in Kent, by the Albury settlement included two public houses and a handful of huts, a police barracks and a blacksmiths.
A log punt established in serviced the crossing of the Murray River, Albury Post Office opened on 1 April , closed in , then reopened in the township on 1 February In , with the separation of Victoria from New South Wales, with an increase in commerce with Melbourne, the first bridge was built in to the design of surveyor William Snell Chauncy. Albury at this time became a Customs Post between the two colonies as New South Wales held a protectionist stance after gaining its constitution in , Albury was at this time starting to grow substantially with German speaking immigrants using the area to grow grapes for wine.
By the s a butter factory was established, a mill, wineries and locally brewed cider. The railway line from Sydney arrived at Albury in , a temporary wooden railway bridge joined the line to the Victorian network in New South Wales and Victoria had different track gauges until , the States could not initially agree which should be the transfer point so they had an expensive and attractive iron lattice bridge sent from Scotland which accommodated both gauges.
